REPUBLIC ACT No. 3596
An Act Amending Section Sixteen Hundred Fifty-Nine of the Administrative Code, as Amended by Republic Acts Numbered Nine Hundred Forty-Five, Two Thousand Sixty-Eight and Three Thousand Four Hundred Sixty-Five
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:
Section 1. Section Sixteen hundred fifty-nine of the Administrative Code, as amended by Republic Acts Numbered Nine hundred forty-five, Two thousand sixty-eight and Three thousand four hundred sixty-five, is further amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1569. Chief Officials of the Office of the Solicitor General. -The office of the Solicitor General shall have one chief to be known as the Solicitor General whose salary shall be the same as that of a justice of the court of appeals. He shall be assisted by one First Assistant Solicitor General who shall have the same salary as that of a judge of the court of first instance. When the Solicitor General is unable to perform his duties or in case of vacancy in the Office, the First Assistant Solicitor General shall temporarily, perform the functions of said officer, or in his absence, the next Assistant Solicitor General who is senior in the service.1âшphi1 There shall also be six Assistant Solicitors General, the first three each to receive a salary of one thousand pesos less than the annual salary of the first assistant solicitor general, and the second three to each receive two thousand pesos less than the annual salary of the first assistant solicitor general. There shall also be fifty-three Solicitors whose salaries shall be as follows:
"(a) Six Solicitors, thirteen thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
"(b) Six Solicitors, twelve thousand six hundred pesos per annum each;
"(c) Six Solicitors, twelve thousand four hundred pesos per annum each;
"(d) Six Solicitors, eleven thousand four hundred pesos per annum each;
"(e) Five Solicitors, ten thousand eight hundred pesos per annum each;
"(f) Three Solicitors, ten thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
"(g) Three Solicitors, nine thousand six hundred pesos per annum each;
"(h) Three Solicitors, nine thousand pesos per annum each;
"(i) Three Solicitors, eight thousand four hundred pesos per annum each;
"(j) Three Solicitors, seven thousand eight hundred pesos per annum each;
"(k) Three Solicitors, seven thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
"(l) Three Solicitors, six thousand eight hundred pesos per annum each;
"(m) Three Solicitors, six thousand pesos per annum each.
"The rank and qualifications for appointment to the position of Solicitor General shall be the same as an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals; the rank and qualifications for appointment to the position of the First Assistant Solicitor General and the Assistant Solicitors General shall be the same as those prescribed for Judges of Courts of First Instance, and those of Solicitors shall be the same as those prescribed for provincial fiscals."
Section 2. Any existing law to the contrary notwithstanding, there shall also be eight Trial Attorneys to be appointed by the Secretary of Justice upon recommendation of the Solicitor General, and whose salaries shall be as follows:
(a) Two Trial Attorneys, five thousand four hundred pesos per annum each;
(b) Two Trial Attorneys, four thousand eight hundred pesos per annum each;
(c) Two Trial Attorneys, four thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
(d) Two Trial Attorneys, three thousand six hundred pesos per annum each.
The incumbent Solicitor General and all incumbent Assistant Solicitors General, Solicitors and Trial Attorneys occupying positions affected by the preceding section at the time of effectivity of this Act shall continue to occupy their respective positions and receive the salary increases herein provided without the necessity of any new appointment.
Section 3. In addition to such sums as may have been provided in the current Appropriations Act, there is hereby appropriated, out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, such sums as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.
Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
