REPUBLIC ACT No. 3594
An Act to Amend Section One of Republic Act Numbered Two Thousand Seven Hundred Five, as Amended, Entitled "An Act Prescribing the Duties and Qualifications, and Fixing the Number and Salaries, of the Members of the Legal Staff in the Office of the Secretary of Justice"
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:
Section 1. Section one of Republic Act Numbered Two thousand seven hundred five, as amended by Republic Act Numbered Three thousand three hundred fifty-two, is hereby further amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1. In the performance of his duties as Attorney General of the Philippines and as ex officio legal adviser of government-owned and controlled corporations or enterprises, the Secretary of Justice shall be assisted by a legal staff which shall have one chief to be known as Chief Legal Counsel whose salary shall be twelve thousand pesos per annum, and two assistants chiefs each of whom shall receive a salary of eleven thousand four hundred pesos per annum, four senior special attorneys, each of whom shall receive a salary of ten thousand eight hundred pesos per annum, and twenty-two special attorneys whose salaries shall be as follows:
"(a) Four special attorneys at ten thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
"(b) Four special attorneys at nine thousand six hundred pesos per annum each;
"(c) Four special attorneys at nine thousand pesos per annum each;
"(d) Four special attorneys at eight thousand four hundred pesos per annum each;
"(e) Six special attorneys at seven thousand two hundred pesos per annum each;
"The qualifications for appointment to the position of chief of the legal staff and those of assistant chiefs, and their ranks, shall be the same as those prescribed for assistant solicitor general, and those for senior special attorneys and special attorneys, and their ranks, shall be the same as those prescribed for solicitors in the Office of the Solicitor General.
"To the interest of greater efficiency in the discharge of the functions of the office, the Attorney General’s Legal Staff may, in the discretion of the Department Head, be organized into two divisions which shall be headed by the two assistant chiefs who shall be known as chief special attorneys and shall be assisted by the senior special attorneys and assistant chiefs of their respective divisions.1awp++i1 The members of the Legal Staff shall receive their salaries in accordance with the above revised salary scale, any provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding."
Section 2. Such sums as may be necessary for the salary increases herein provided for the members of the legal staff, and for the salaries of such other complementary personnel in the legal research, library and stenographic staffs as well as for maintenance and other operating expenses and equipment, are hereby appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, in addition to the appropriation provided in the General Appropriations Act for the legal staff for the ensuing fiscal year. Henceforth appropriations to cover salaries and other expenses of the legal staff as herein provided shall be carried in the annual General Appropriations Act.
Section 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
