AN ACT FOR THE PROTECTION AND ASSISTANCE OF PERSONS LIVING IN THE VICINITY OF TAAL VOLCANO.

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that :

Section 1. The Director of the Weather Bureau shall establish  at some suitable point to be selected by him on or near the shore of Bombon Lake a seismological station for the purpose of observing and studying the disturbances of the earth which precede the eruptions of Taal Volcano and of giving seasonable warnings to the inhabitants concerned when there is danger that an eruption may occur.

Section 2. There shall be operated in connection with said station Launch on Bombon launch which shall be kept constantly ready and available for use in warning and assisting persons living on or near the shore of Bombon Lake in the event of the occurrence, or likelihood, of a serious eruption. When Taal Volcano is quiescent this launch may be employed in transporting persons and freight on Bombon Lake for hire, and the receipts from such transportation shall be current receipts of the Weather Bureau and are hereby made available for the maintenance of the launch and for meeting the expenses of the station.

Section 3. Telephonic and telegraphic communication shall be established between the station and the telephone and telegraph system in the Province of Batangas.(awÞhi(

Section 4. The sum of eighteen thousand pesos is hereby appropriated, out of any funds m the Insular Treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the purchase of a suitable launch and for its operation and maintenance during the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and thirteen; for the acquisition of the necessary seismological apparatus; for the purchase of a suitable building site; for the construction of the necessary buildings; for the establishment of telephonic and telegraphic communication; and for the salaries of one employee at seven hundred and twenty pesos per annum, one employee at four hundred and eighty pesos per annum, and one employee at one hundred and eighty pesos per annum, hereby authorized: Provided, That the construction of the necessary buildings and the installation of the apparatus shall be under the direction and control of the Director of the Weather Bureau.

Section 5.  The  scale  of charges for  transporting passengers and rates freight shall be fixed by the Director of the Weather Bureau, subject to the approval of the Secretary of the Interior.

Section 6. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
