EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 257 July 10, 1995
CREATING A PROJECT COORDINATING COMMITTEE TO IMPLEMENT THE PHILIPPINE SUPPLEMENT TO THE SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN JOURNAL
WHEREAS, the government fully recognizes the role of science and technology in economic development;
WHEREAS, there is an imperative need to promote the Philippines as a site of investment for technology-intensive industries;
WHEREAS, the Scientific American Journal is an excellent medium for the promotion of the country's science and technology sector;
WHEREAS, the publication of a Philippine supplement in the Journal will provide a positive image of the science and technology base on selected areas and the favorable experience of technology-intensive industries which have been able to achieve excellence and world class operations in the Philippines;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby direct and order, as follows:
Sec. 1. A Project Coordinating Committee to implement the Philippine supplement of the Scientific American Journal is hereby created. The Committee shall be constituted with the following:
Chairman : Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry
Co-Chairman : Secretary, Department of Science and Technology
Members : Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs
Secretary, Department of Tourism
President, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Sec. 2. The above committee is authorized to draw and use funds available from their respective budgets, which shall not exceed TEN MILLION PESOS (P10,000,000.00) to defray the cost of the project.
Sec. 3. The committee shall likewise prepare the necessary guidelines for the effective implementation of this Executive Order. The guidelines shall require the submission of periodic reports to the Office of the President.
Sec. 4. All existing Executive Orders, Administrative Orders, Rules and Regulations and other issuances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed or amended accordingly. lawphi1.net
Sec. 5. This Executive Order shall take effect immediately.
