EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 521 January 29, 1979

MODIFYING THE RATES OF IMPORT DUTY ON CERTAIN IMPORTED ARTICLES AS PROVIDED UNDER PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1464, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE TARIFF AND CUSTOMS CODE OF 1978

Pursuant to the powers vested in me by Section 401 of Presidential Decree No. 1464, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby direct and order:

Sec. 1. The articles specifically listed hereunder as classified under Section 104 of Presidential Decree No. 1464 shall pay the following rates of import duty:

Sec. 2. After the expiration of thirty (30) days from the issuance of this Order, all the above-described articles entered or withdrawn from warehouse, in the Philippines, for consumption shall be subject to the rates of import duty herein prescribed.

Sec. 3. Any unwarranted increase in the prices of local products benefited by these tariff changes may be sufficient ground for the revocation of such tariff changes.

Sec. 4. After the lapse of three years from the effectivity of this Executive Order, the Tariff Commission shall, in the case of tariff increases in this order, undertake a review of the effects of the protection herein granted to the respective industries to determine the possibility of phasing out the protective tariff under a graduated scheme. However, failure to comply with the requirement in this section shall mean an automatic reversion to the previous rate of duty.
