REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9093       April 08, 2001

AN ACT DECLARING MARCH 16 OF EVERY YEAR AS A WORKING SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR THE CITY OF TAGBILARAN AND THE PROVINCE OF BOHOL TO BE KNOWN AS THE BLOOD COMPACT DAY, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

Section 1. Spanish Captain-General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Boholano Chieftain, Datu Sikatuna entered into a blood compact, the first treaty of friendship and alliance between Spaniards and Filipinos on March 16, 1565 in Barangay Bool, City of Tagbilaran.

Section 2. To perpetuate the historic event, March 16 of every year is hereby declared as a working special public holiday for the City of Tagbilaran and the Province of Bohol to be known as the Blood Compact Day.

Section 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

This Act which originated in the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on February 6, 2001 and October 2, 2000, respectively.
