[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8554, February 25, 1998 ]

AN ACT CONVERTING THE CARIGARA SCHOOL OF FISHERIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CARIGARA, PROVINCE OF LEYTE, INTO A COLLEGE, TO BE KNOWN AS THE CARIGARA COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

Section 1. The Carigara School of Fisheries in the Municipality of Carigara, Province of Leyte, is hereby converted into a college, to be known as the Carigara College of Fisheries, hereinafter referred to as the College.

Section 2. The College, in addition to the present secondary education offered by the existing high school, shall provide higher vocational and technical courses and training in the field of fisheries leading to the degrees of fisheries and marine engineering.

Section 3. The College shall be under the administration and supervision of the Commission on Higher Education as a CHED supervised Higher Education Institution (CHEI).Ꮮαwρhi৷

Section 4. All personnel, records and assets, as well as liabilities of the Carigara School of Fisheries, are hereby transferred to and absorbed by the Carigara College of Fisheries.

Section 5. The amount necessary for the implementation of this Act shall be charged against the current year's appropriations of the Carigara School of Fisheries. Thereafter, such sums as may be necessary for its operation and maintenance shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.

Section 6. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

This Act which originated in the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on November 12, 1997 and October 27, 1997, respectively.
