[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6851, February 10, 1990 ]
AN ACT CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF KALAWIT IN THE PROVINCE OF ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:
Section 1. Barangays San Jose, Concepcion, New Calamba, Gatas, Fatima, Botong, Batayan, Marcelo, Palalian, Paraiso, Pianon, Daniel Maing, Tugop and Kalawit, of the Municipality of Labason, Province of Zamboanga del Norte, shall be constituted as a distinct and independent municipality in the same province to be known as the Municipality of Kalawit.
Section 2. The technical description of the new municipality shall be as follows:

containing an area of 25,000 hectares, more or less.
Section 3. After the ratification by the majority of the votes cast in a plebiscite to be conducted in the entire Municipality of Labason, Zamboanga del Norte, within a period of one hundred twenty (120) days from the approval of this Act, the President of the Philippines shall appoint the first officials of the municipality. Said officials shall hold office until their successors shall have been duly elected and qualified.
Section 4. The seat of the municipal government of the newly created Municipality of Kalawit shall be established in Barangay Kalawit.
Section 5. The Commission on Elections shall conduct and supervise the plebiscite. The expenses in holding the plebiscite shall be taken out of the Contingent Fund under the current fiscal year appropriations.1âшphi1
Section 6. This Act shall take effect upon its publication in at least two (2) national newspapers of general circulation.
