REPUBLIC ACT No. 5501
AN ACT AMENDING CERTAIN SECTIONS OF THE REVISED CHARTER OF THE CITY OF DAVAO
(re Constitution and organization of the city council, etc.).
Section 1. Section eleven of Republic Act Numbered Forty-three hundred fifty-four, otherwise known as the Revised Charter of the City of Davao, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 11. Constitution and organization of the City Council. The City Council shall be the legislative body of the city, and shall be composed of the vice-mayor, who shall be elected at large by the qualified voters of the City: Provided, That the positions of the four new councilors shall be filled up in accordance with existing laws."
Section 2. The first paragraph of Section fourteen, excluding the subparagraphs, of the same Act is amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 14. Secretary of the City Council. The City Council shall have a secretary who shall be elected by the Council to serve during the term of office of the members unless sooner removed by a majority vote of said members. His compensation as secretary shall be not less than twelve thousand pesos per annum. The secretary shall have the following duties:"
Section 3. The first paragraph of Section twenty-two of the same Act is amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 22. Allowance. Subject to the discretion of the City Council, the head of a department and his assistant or the chief and assistant chief of an office shall be entitled to a commutable allowance in addition to their respective salaries, for quarters and representation which shall not be more than five thousand four hundred pesos for the head or chiefs, and three thousand six hundred pesos for the assistants per annum."
Section 4. All existing laws or parts of law inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.
Section 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
