REPUBLIC ACT No. 4396
An Act Creating the Municipality of Liwan in Mountain Province
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:
Section 1. The eastern portion of the Municipality of Tabuk, from Ileb Saddle to the Kalinga-Cagayan boundary, comprising the barrios of Liwan East, Liwan West, Santol, Babbalag, Macutay and Bolbol (all in Mountain Province) are separated from said municipality, and are constituted into a distinct and independent municipality to be known as the Municipality of Liwan, same province.
The seat of the municipal government shall be in the residential site at Liwan.
Section 2. The first mayor, vice-mayor, and councilors of the Municipality of Liwan shall be appointed by the President and shall hold office until their successors have been elected in the next general elections for local officials, and shall have qualified: Provided, That the incumbent elective municipal councilors of the Municipality of Tabuk who are actual residents of the new municipality shall serve the remaining terms of their elective offices in the Municipality of Liwan until the expiration of their respective terms of office. All other officers and employees of said municipality shall be appointed as provided by law.
Section 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
