REPUBLIC ACT No. 1502
An Act to Amend Republic Act Numbered Eleven Hundred and Sixty-Nine Providing for Charity Sweepstakes Horse Races and Lotteries
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:
Section 1. Section nine of Republic Act Numbered Eleven hundred and sixty-nine is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 9. Once a month, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is authorized to hold one regular sweepstakes draw and races and to hold every year six lotteries during days when there are no sweepstakes draws and ordinary races: Provided, However, That the net proceeds of the lotteries held in June and December every year shall be for the benefit of and shall accrue to the funds of the Quezon Institute: Provided, further, That except as hereinabove otherwise provided the net proceeds of one of the lotteries shall be for the benefit each of the National Federation of Women’s Clubs for the support of its charitable community improvement program, the athletic program of the public schools, leprosaria and orphanages in the Philippines, the Philippine Mental Health Association, the Philippine Band of Mercy, the Manila Children’s Hospital, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the National Mental Hospital; said net proceeds to accrue only once to each of the said beneficiaries": Provided, further, That all disbursements from this fund shall be subject to the established rules and regulations governing disbursements of public funds: Provided, still further, That orphanages maintained by the Government shall be given priority apportionment: And Provided, finally, That the allocations granted to the Federation of Women’s Clubs and other private associations shall exclusively be used for charitable purposes."
Section 2. The Board of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes is hereby authorized to fix the heights of race horses to run in each sweepstakes race as provided for in this Act.
Section 3. Any provisions of existing laws inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
