PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1228
AMENDING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 5864 ENTITLED "AN ACT CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF PITOGO IN THE PROVINCE OF BOHOL"
WHEREAS, the people of the Municipality of Pitogo, Province of Bohol, clamored for the change of their town's name to President Carlos P. Garcia to perpetuate the memory of Bohol's illustrious son who rose from humble beginnings to become the fourth President of the Republic of the Philippines, and first President of the 1971 Constitutional Convention;
WHEREAS, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol passed Resolution No. 48 dated April 28, 1977, requesting the President to issue a decree changing the name of Pitogo, Bohol to President Carlos P. Garcia;
WHEREAS, the proposed change of name of the Municipality is in line with the present national trend of honoring its heroes and men of remarkable achievements;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order and decree:
Section 1. Republic Act No. 5864 entitled "An Act Creating the Municipality of Pitogo in the Province of Bohol" is hereby amended by changing the name of the Municipality of Pitogo to "Municipality of President Carlos P. Garcia."
Section 2. Henceforth, Municipality of Pitogo, Province of Bohol shall, as a political subdivision, be known as "Municipality of President Carlos P. Garcia" and all transactions, documents, laws, decrees, court orders, or decisions, ordinances, resolutions, and all other papers bearing the name of Pitogo, Bohol, shall be understood to mean "Municipality of Carlos P. Garcia."
Section 3. All laws, decrees, proclamations, executive orders and ordinances inconsistent with this Decree are hereby modified, amended or repealed accordingly.
Section 4. This Decree shall take effect one month after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Done in the City of Manila, Philippines this 27th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and seventy-seven.
