AN ACT PROVIDING UNIFORM UNITS OF VOLUME OR WEIGHT IN TRADINGS IN RICE AND PALAY.
Be it enacted by the National Assembly of the Philippines:
Section 1. All tradings in rice and palay, not including bearded and unthreshed palay in straw and in bundles, shall be conducted on the basis of the liter, the kilogram, the sack, or the ganta. Exclusive of the weight of the containers, each sack of rice shall weigh at least fifty-six kilograms and each sack of palay at least forty-four kilograms. The ganta shall contain three liters.
Section 2. Any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the milling, selling, buying, or bartering rice or palay shall use only containers clearly marked with the volume
or weight as well as the kind or variety of the rice or palay milled, sold, bought, or bartered.ℒαwρhi৷ These marks, preferably in print, shall be made in letters and figures of not less than two inches in height.
Section 3. Anyone engaged in the milling, selling, buying, or bartering of rice or palay who violates any provision of this Act shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred pesos and not more than five hundred pesos, or imprisonment for not less than fifteen days and not more than three months, or both. If the violation is committed by a firm or corporation, the manager, managing director, or person charged with the management of the business of such firm or corporation shall be criminally responsible therefor.
Section 4. This Act shall take effect three months after its approval.
