[ PROCLAMATION NO. 73, November 22, 2010 ]

DECLARING TUESDAY NOVEMBER 23, 2010 AS A NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR THE VICTIMS IN THE MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE

WHEREAS, on November 23, 2009, twenty-five unarmed civilians, and thirty-two members of the media, were brutally murdered in Ampatuan Town, Maguindanao;

WHEREAS, the quest for justice continues for victims and their bereaved families;

WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the nation to pause and reflect on one year having passed since the massacre horrified the Filipino people and the world, and that justice must be served on the perpetrators;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III , President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 23, 2010, as a National Day of Remembrance for the Victims in the Maguindanao Massacre.

I call on the Filipino people to solemnly bear the departed in their thoughts, and for all citizens from all walks of life to commit, in solidarity, to the quest for justice for the victims.
