ENCOURAGING THE PUBLIC TO JOIN IN THE OBSERVANCE AND CELEBRATION OF THE CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR ON JANUARY 29, 2006 THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

WHEREAS, the second new moon after the winter solstice marks the beginning of the new year according to the Chinese lunar calendar, and has been determined to occur on a Sunday, January 29, 2006;

WHEREAS, the Chinese community all over the world celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year;

WHEREAS, to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the opportunity to join all Chinese-Filipinos in observing and celebrating the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby issue this proclamation to encourage the public to join in the observance and celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year on Sunday, January 29, 2006.1aшphi1
