DECLARING THE MONTH OF MAY 2006 AS ORGANIC FOOD MONTH

WHEREAS, the promotion of healthy foods through organic production is necessary to protect the health of the consuming public and help prevent the outbreak of diseases;

WHEREAS, the protection of the environment and ecology should be maintained at all times;

WHEREAS, organic production should be a way of life for the farmers toward safeguarding their health and that of the consumers of their products;

WHEREAS, organic food production will boost the growth and development of Filipino farmers, food producers, processors and manufacturers and make them locally and globally competitive;

WHEREAS, a unified and integrated national effort of both the government and the private sectors is key to the success of the organic food industry.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of May 2006 as Organic Food Month.

All departments, agencies and instrumentalities of the government are hereby enjoined to actively support promotion and observance of Organic Food Month.1aшphi1

The Department of Agriculture, in tandem with the Department of Trade and Industry, through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, shall in particular spearhead the appropriate observance of Organic Food Month in cooperation with local government units.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
