[ PROCLAMATION NO. 906, August 30, 2005 ]

DECLARING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2005 AS "VICTORY DAY" AND A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE CITY OF BAGUIO AND IFUGAO PROVINCE

WHEREAS, Friday, September 2, 2005 marks the 60th Anniversary of the surrender of Japanese forces under General Tomoyuki Yamashita to the combined Filipino and American forces in Kiangan, Ifugao;

WHEREAS, the event is of national significance, marking the conclusion of the Second World War in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, there is a need to undertake a deeper interest in the history of our country;

WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper for Filipinos, particularly the youth, to rekindle a deep sense of national pride, unity and patriotism by honoring their brave countrymen who, strong in faith and steadfast in loyalty, answered the call to duty during the darkest days of the Philippines;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency,  GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby declare Friday, September 2, 2005 as "Victory Day" and a special (non-working) day in the City of Baguio and Ifugao Province.

The National Historical Institute (NHI), the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCAA), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) shall spearhead the preparation and allocate funds for the celebration of "Victory Day", and shall coordinate with and supervise the local government units to come up with appropriate programs for the commemoration of this historic event.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) shall issue the appropriate guidelines to implement this Proclamation.ℒαwρhi৷
