[ PROCLAMATION NO. 896, August 21, 2005 ]

AUTHORIZING SCHOOLS TO OBSERVE NINOY AQUINO DAY ON MONDAY, AUGUST 22, 2005 ON AN OPTIONAL BASIS

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9256 declared August 21 of every year as Ninoy Aquino Day, a special (non-working) holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr.;

WHEREAS, Senator Aquino, during his lifetime, fought for freedom and democracy thereby serving as an inspiration to freedom-loving Filipinos especially the youth;

WHEREAS, August 21 this year falls on a Sunday, and it would be best if the youth would be given the opportunity to commemorate Senator Aquino’s death anniversary with appropriate ceremonies.ᇈWᑭHIL

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, do hereby authorize all schools, both public and private, at the option of the school administrators, to declare a nonworking holiday on Monday, August 22, 2005, in commemoration of the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr.

The Department of Labor and Employment shall, in coordination with the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and the Technological Education and Skills Development Authority, issue the necessary rules and regulations to implement this Proclamation.ℒαwρhi৷
