DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER 1997 AS “TRANSPLANTATION WEEK”

WHEREAS, about 7,000 deaths occur every year in the Philippines due to various kidney diseases;

WHEREAS, a major treatment for patients with advanced kidney disease is renal transplantation;

WHEREAS, other organ failures including the liver, bone marrow, cornea, pancreas, heart and lungs are likewise being treated by transplantation;

WHEREAS, the Philippines has been chosen as the site of the 5th Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation on December 4 to 7, 1997;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first week of December 1997 as Transplantation Week under the auspices of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.1aшphi1
