DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM SEPTEMBER 6 TO 12 OF EVERY YEAR AS TRADE AND INDUSTRY WEEK

WHEREAS, Act No. 222, dated 6 September 1901, of the Philippine Commission established the Department of Commerce (and Police), which is the historical precursor of the present Department of Trade and Industry;

WHEREAS, government has meshed together, under one unified management, its efforts to develop a balanced coherent and integrated program for industry and investments responsive to the prevailing compensative conditions of both the domestic and global markets;

WHEREAS, the Department of Trade and Industry as an institution is committed to promote sustainable agro-industrial growth for the main purpose of job generation in globally competitive industry sector, serve as the catalystic link to business and consumers, and provide timely world-class services to its clients;

WHEREAS, there is need to rekindle the awareness and commitment of the public and private sector to the industry, investment, and trade targets of the Philippines as major contributory factors to the countrys vision of NIChood by the year 2000;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from September 6 to 12 of every year as Trade and Industry Week to be celebrated with appropriate activities and programs that effectively rally broad-based support for and renew the commitment of those involved in trade and industry work.1aшphi1
