[ Proclamation No. 234, August 20, 1993 ]

DECLARING AUGUST 27 OF EVERY YEAR AS GENERAL LICERIO GERONIMO DAY IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RODRIGUEZ, PROVINCE OF RIZAL

WHEREAS, August 27 is the birth anniversary of General Licerio Geronimo, one of our great Filipino heroes;

WHEREAS, General Geronimo rendered invaluable service to our country and the Filipino citizenry as a revolutionary leader;

WHEREAS, General Geronimo, as general of the revolutionary Army of Rizal, triumphantly fought the Spanish forces;

WHEREAS, as commanding general of the third military zone of the then Province of Manila, in the Battle of San Mateo, he dealt a severe blow to his enemies with his forces, whereby the American general, Henry W. Lawton, perished;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the residents of Rodriguez, Rizal, be given full opportunity to commemorate the day with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby declare August 27 of every year as General Licerio Geronimo Day, in the Municipality of Rodriguez, Province of Rizal. The day shall be a regular working and school day.ℒαwρhi৷

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
