[ Proclamation No. 147, March 3, 1993 ]

DECLARING APRIL 21 AND MAY 19, 1993 AND EVERY THIRD WEDNESDAY OF JANUARY AND FEBRUARY THEREAFTER, FOR TWO YEARS, AS NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION DAYS (NIDs)

WHEREAS, there is a need to drastically reduce preventable diseases afflicting our Filipino children;

WHEREAS, the effective control if not the complete eradication of poliomyelitis, neonatal tetanus and measles must be achieved by the years 1995, 1998 and 2000, respectively;

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 46 dated September 16, 1992 reaffirms the commitment of the Philippines to the Universal Child and Mother Immunization goal of the World Health Assembly by launching the Philippine Poliomyelitis Eradication Project;

WHEREAS, the Department of Health has identified the following targets for immunization - nine (9) million children are to be given oral vaccine, two (2) million children are to be given measles vaccine and other vaccines, and four (4) million women (15 to 44 years old) are to be given tetanus toxoid;

WHEREAS, all target children and women, particularly those in remote places, must receive vaccinations simultaneously.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby:

1. Declare April 21 and May 19, 1993 and every third Wednesday of January and February thereafter, for the next two years, as NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION DAYS (NIDs).

2. Designate the Department of Health (DOH) as the lead government agency for NIDs tasked to coordinate with other government agencies, non-government and international organizations, local government units, civic groups and other concerned sectors.ℒαwρhi৷
