[ Proclamation No. 87, October 30, 1992 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 1992 TO OCTOBER 1993 AS FILIPINO-HISPANIC HERITAGE YEAR

WHEREAS, October 12 marks the introduction of Spanish culture and civilization into the New World, and is observed worldwide in all countries bearing Spanish cultural influence;

WHEREAS, the Philippines is among the countries where early civilization, heritage, and culture trace their roots to Spanish origin;

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus public attention on the occasion to remind our people of the lasting contribution of Spain to our politico-socio-cultural development and growth as a nation, as well as to enhance our historical and cultural ties with the Spanish-speaking world; and,

WHEREAS, the observance of the occasion will give meaning to our cultural heritage from Spain, even as it should accentuate the Governments efforts toward international goodwill and understanding;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from October 1992 to October 1993 as Filipino-Hispanic Heritage Year.ℒαwρhi৷

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
