DECLARING SUNDAY, APRIL 22, 1990, AS “EARTH DAY 1990”

WHEREAS, the gravity of environment degradation and destruction in the country threatens the very quality of life of many Filipinos;

WHEREAS, the denudation of our forests and the current drought exhibit most dramatically the plight of our environment;

WHEREAS, the support of the citizenry is vital to the success of measures directed at the improvement and conservation of our environment;

WHEREAS, public awareness is essential to the initiation of widespread civic action protective of the environment;

WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a special occasion to be celebrated on April 22, 1990 by more than 100 countries as a signal of commitment to the conservation of the environment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Sunday, April 22, 1990, as “Earth Day 1990.”
