DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF APRIL 1990 AS RURAL BANKING WEEK

WHEREAS, with the promulgation of Republic Act 720, the Rural Banking System came into being in June 1952;

WHEREAS, rural banks have not only been instrumental in increasing agricultural productivity, thereby elevating the level of living in the rural communities, but also become a vital cog in the wheel of economic growth;

WHEREAS, the rural banking system has grown consistently in terms of the number of banking offices and the services rendered to the people in the countryside;

WHEREAS, it is fitting that public attention be focused on the significant role of the rural banking system in accelerating countryside development;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the 3rd week of April 1990, as Rural Banking Week under the auspices of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines and other involved agencies.
