BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 332, September 30, 1988 ]

DECLARING OCTOBER 3, 1988 AND THE FIRST MONDAY OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS “NATIONAL HABITAT DAY”.

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the United Nations by its Resolution No. 40/202A of December 17, 1985 decided to designate the First Monday of October of every year as “World Habitat Day”;

WHEREAS, as a good standing member of the United Nations and as a signatory of the above-mentioned resolution, the Philippines adheres to and adopts the generally accepted declarations and principles of the United Nations;

WHEREAS, recognizing the vital role of housing in generating economic activity and in promoting the general well-being of the people, the government has placed housing as a priority area of concern;

WHEREAS, the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) is the Government agency with the overall task of coordinating the governments housing program; and

WHEREAS, in connection with this years celebration of the World Habitat Day, with the theme “Shelter and Community”, various activities will be undertaken to give meaning to the aforementioned worldwide celebration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 3, 1988, and the first Monday of October of every year as “National Habitat Day” under the auspices of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and such other agencies and organizations participating in the said celebration.
