[ Proclamation No. 260, May 19, 1988 ]

DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF JUNE OF EVERY YEAR AS ACCOUNTANCY WEEK

WHEREAS, certified public accountants, by reason of their profession, constitute a vital sector in the development of the national economy;

WHEREAS, it appears that the accountancy profession in the Philippines has grouped itself into four (4) major sectors, namely, Certified Public Accountants in government who have organized themselves into the Government Association of CPAs or GACPA, the Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice who have organized themselves into the Association of CPAs in Public Practice or ACPAPP, the Certified Public Accountants in Commerce and Industry who have organized themselves into the Association of CPAs in Commerce and Industry or ACPACI, the Certified Public Accountants in Education who have organized themselves into the Association of CPAs in Education or ACPAE, and, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants or PICPA whose membership cuts across the various sectors; and

WHEREAS, the role played by certified public accountants deserves wide dissemination for greater public attention;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the third week of June of every year as Accountancy Week, the nationwide celebration of which shall be principally undertaken under the auspices of the aforementioned aggrupations of Certified Public Accountants in round-robin fashion starting with GACPA for the year 1988 and so on as to the other associations who are enjoined to participate actively in the yearly celebration of Accountancy Week.
