[ Proclamation No. 245, April 12, 1988 ]

DECLARING 1989 AS THE PHILIPPINE FIESTA YEAR

WHEREAS, the Philippines counts among its rich cultural heritage the celebration of fiestas and other indigenous activities in the various towns and cities;

WHEREAS, these fiestas and activities should be celebrated in their simple yet authentic manner giving due emphasis to their historical and traditional significance;

WHEREAS, this aspect of Filipino life which is one continuous festivities - an interesting mix of Christian, Muslim and other beliefs - should be fully projected here and abroad in order to fully appreciate the real Filipino; and

WHEREAS, the proper projection and promotion of the Philippines as the Fiesta Islands will greatly contribute to the promotion of the Philippines as a wholesome tourist destination;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim 1989 as the Philippine Fiesta Year.1aшphi1
