BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 211, January 29, 1988 ]

DECLARING FEBRUARY 2 OF EVERY YEAR AS CONSTITUTION DAY.

WHEREAS, a new Constitution adopted by the 1986 Constitutional Commission was ratified overwhelmingly by the Filipino people in a plebiscite held on February 2, 1987;

WHEREAS, this Constitution, as the fundamental law of the land, envisions a just and humane society and a government that embodies the ideals and aspirations of the Filipino people, promotes the common good, and secures to themselves and their posterity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace; and

WHEREAS, in order to instill in the hearts and minds of the Filipino people the democratic principles and the noble and lofty ideals enshrined in the Constitution, it is but fitting that a day be set aside as CONSTITUTION DAY to give the Filipino people the opportunity to consecrate and dedicate themselves to the Constitution and ponder on the significance thereof.ℒαwρhi৷

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the 2nd day of February of every year as CONSTITUTION DAY.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 29th day of January, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-eight.
