[ Proclamation No. 97, April 14, 1987 ]

DECLARING MONDAY, MAY 11, 1987 AND TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1987, AS NON-WORKING SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES.

WHEREAS, Section 1, Article XVIII of the 1987 Constitution provides that the first elections of Members of the Congress shall be held on the second Monday of May, 1987;

WHEREAS, pursuant to the said Constitutional mandate, the elections for the Members of the Congress will be held on Monday, May 11, 1987;

WHEREAS, Monday, May 11, 1987, should be declared a non-working special public holiday to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the said elections;

WHEREAS, the list of candidates to be voted for in the aforesaid elections are 24 senators and 1 representative, thereby rendering the canvassing and tallying thereof a longer process;

WHEREAS, the people should have the fullest opportunity to witness said process if they so desire;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Monday, May 11, 1987 and Tuesday, May 12, 1987, as non-working special public holidays throughout the Philippines.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
