PROCLAMATION No. 94

FIXING THE DATE FOR THE HOLDING OF THE LOCAL ELECTIONS PURSUANT TO THE SECOND PARAGRAPH OF SECTION 1, ARTICLE XVIII OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION

WHEREAS, the second paragraph of Section 1 of Article XVIII of the 1987 Constitution provides that "The first local elections shall be held on a date to be determined by the President, which may be simultaneous with the election of the Members of the Congress. It shall include the election of all Members of the city or municipal councils in the Metropolitan Manila area";

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the second paragraph of Section 1 of Article XVIII of the 1987 Constitution, do hereby proclaim that the first local elections as provided for in the said second paragraph of Section 1 of Article XVIII of the 1987 Constitution shall be held on August 24, 1987.
