[ Proclamation No. 197, December 16, 1987 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 16 TO 23, 1987, AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “NATIONAL PORTS WEEK”.

WHEREAS, our country is presently pursuing an economic recovery program and to support and sustain such program inevitably requires the productive efforts of all segments of our society;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has been created to implement the State policy of an integrated program for planning, development, financing, operation and maintenance of port and port districts for the entire country;

WHEREAS, PPA though a relatively young organization has already established itself as an energetic force in the area of port management, operation and development; and

WHEREAS, ports play a vital role in the transport system linking together the islands thereby serving the needs of interislands seaborne commerce and foreign trade, and contributing to the overall development of the Philippine economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare December 16 to 23, 1987, and every year thereafter as “National Ports Week”.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
