[ Proclamation No. 118, June 11, 1987 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 16 TO JUNE 22 AS PROFESSIONAL REGULATION WEEK.

WHEREAS, the State regulates the practice of the professions in pursuance of the “general welfare” clause of the Constitution;

WHEREAS, it is the aim of government to develop consciousness among the professionals of their responsibility in national development, and inculcate in them an awareness of their potentials as leaders in the pursuit of the national goals and of their duty to serve the public with only the best of their knowledge and expertise; and

WHEREAS, the present state of regulated professions and occupations and the emergence of new ones create an urgent need to institute reforms and provide meaningful regulation and supervision over such professions and occupations; as well as honor and acknowledge the professionals achievement and invaluable service to, and support of, the new government;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from June 16 to June 22 of every year as “PROFESSIONAL REGULATION WEEK” under the auspices of the Professional Regulation Commission, the Professional Boards and the Professional Association. It is further declared that attendance of professionals in the government service in recognized continuing education program shall be on official time and at government expense which program is intended to ensure their competency to render professional services.1aшphi1
