DECLARING MRS. HONORATA “ATANG” DE LA RAMA AS NATIONAL ARTIST

WHEREAS, the Constitution provides for State patronage of the arts and letters;

WHEREAS, the category known as National Artist was created under Proclamation No. 1001, dated April 27, 1972, and since then, eighteen artists have been proclaimed, each one having produced a body of work that has enhanced the Filipinos cultural heritage;

WHEREAS, such preeminent achievements deserve the recognition and acknowledgment of our Government in pursuit of its policy of preserving and developing Filipino culture and a national identity; and

WHEREAS, the works and achievements of Mrs. Honorata “Atang” de la Rama in theater and music are reflective of this preeminent excellence, and of that national genius that contributes to the artistic heritage of the Philippines and of the world;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, and upon recommendation of the Board of Trustees, and the Management and Artistic Consultative Board of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Presidential Commission on Culture and the Arts, and pursuant to Proclamation No. 1001, do hereby declare Mrs.1aшphi1 Honorata “Atang” de la Rama as National Artist.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
