BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 101, May 6, 1987 ]

AUTHORIZING THE UNITED WAY PHILIPPINES, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL AND FUND CAMPAIGN DURING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 1, 1987 TO MARCH 31, 1988.

WHEREAS, the United Way Philippines, Inc., formerly Community Chests and Councils of the Philippines, Inc., has been engaged in the funding of the self-help community health and welfare services, as well as in the promotion of the economic well-being of the people, in the different parts of the country;

WHEREAS, to these ends, units of the Barangay Rural Improvement Corps (BRIC) have been organized in almost all the provinces, cities and municipalities of the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the unique operation of the BRIC induced the holding of the 5th International Conference on United Fund Raising in Manila on May 5-10, 1979, which was attended by delegates from several nations that accepted the BRIC as a model for their countries;

WHEREAS, such program of rural development is supportive of the objectives of the New Government to fully develop the rural areas under the aegis of the New Constitution; and

WHEREAS, it is desired that the humanitarian objectives of the United Way be fully attained;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the United Way Philippines, Inc., to conduct a national educational and fund campaign during the period from April 1, 1987 to March 31, 1988.

I hereby call upon all residents, of whatever race or creed, business firms, organizations, and government officials and employees in the areas above mentioned to fully support the campaigns of the United Way in the Philippines by giving generously of their means and efforts to this one annual appeal campaign for the promotion of the health welfare and economic well-being of our less fortunate and underprivileged countrymen, in their respective areas of operation.1aшphi1
