[ Proclamation No. 2461, October 16, 1985 ]

DECLARING 17 TO 24 OCTOBER 1985 AS UNITED NATIONS WEEK IN OBSERVANCE OF THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS

WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 38/455 of 20 December 1983 decided that the Fortieth Anniversary of the United Nations shall be commemorated;

WHEREAS, the Philippines, as one of the original signatories to the UN Charter, has actively participated in the activities of the United Nations since its establishment in 1945;

WHEREAS, the United Nations has proved to be a vital instrument for promoting international cooperation and understanding, and for harmonizing national action directed towards development and the improvement of the quality of life;

WHEREAS, there is a need to highlight, as well as to focus, attention on the important role the UN has played in the pursuit of a peaceful, secure and progressive world-order for the last forty years;

WHEREAS, it is therefore fitting that United Nations Week be observed to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the United Nations, for which the Philippine Government has established a National Committee which will be responsible for formulating and implementing suitable programmes of activities to commemorate the Anniversary, particularly on United Nations Day, 24 October;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby proclaim:

That 17 to 24 October of this year be celebrated as United Nations Week;

That all agencies, instrumentalities and offices of government, including those performing proprietary functions, and particularly those in media, are hereby enjoined to provide the necessary assistance to the abovementioned National Committee.1aшphi1
