PROCLAMATION NO. 2164

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JANUARY 1 TO DECEMBER 31, 1982, AS “MANILA WATER SYSTEM CENTENNIAL YEAR”.

WHEREAS, in 1743 General Francisco Carriedo y Peredo, a Spanish philantropist, bequeathed 10,000 pesos to the City of Manila to constitute as a trust fund for the construction of the Manila Water System;

WHEREAS, this donation and its accumulated earnings funded the construction of what is considered as one of the first modern water systems in the Far East, which was completed and inaugurated in 1882; and

WHEREAS, the year 1982 marks the centenary of the Manila Water System;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the year 1982 as the “Manila Water System Centennial Year” under the auspices of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.ℒαwρhi৷

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
