PROCLAMATION NO. 2094

ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS OF THE REFERENDUM CONDUCTED ON JUNE 16, 1981 ON THE QUESTION OF WHETHER BARANGAY ELECTIONS SHALL BE CONDUCTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

WHEREAS, pursuant to Proclamation No. 2088 dated May 21, 1981, a national referendum was conducted on June 16, 1981, simultaneous with the Presidential elections posing the following question:

“Do you want to have a barangay election immediately after the presidential election?”

WHEREAS, the canvass of the votes cast conducted by the Commission on Elections in accordance with law yielded the following results:

YES — 16,268,523 — 81.09%

NO — 3,793,322 — 18.91%

WHEREAS, the above results of the referendum show that an overwhelming majority of the voters desire that the barangay elections be held immediately after the presidential elections;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby announce that an overwhelming majority of the voters in the June 16, 1981 referendum opted for the holding of barangay elections immediately after said date, to be set by the Batasang Pambansa.ᇈWᑭHIL
