PROCLAMATION NO. 2092

CREATING AN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE PLANNING AND EXECUTION OF THE COMMEMORATIVE ACTIVITIES FOR THE 40TH (RUBY) ANNIVERSARY OF THE FALL OF BATAAN ON APRIL 9, 1982, AND AUTHORIZING IT TO CONDUCT A FUND CAMPAIGN DURING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 1, 1981 TO MARCH 31, 1982.

WHEREAS, on April 9, 1982, four decades shall have lapsed since the Philippines gained greater worldwide respect and glory as a bastion of democracy thru the now immortalized names of Bataan and Corregidor;

WHEREAS, while the thinning number of survivors hopefully look forward to the “golden anniversary” commemoration, the lengthening shadows of time may not allow a good number of them to see more years beyond the “Ruby Anniversary” in 1982;

WHEREAS, the surviving members of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, together with the next of kin of those who have passed away, have signified their desire to come in greater number to join them in relieving the initial dark days of World War II and pay homage to their former comrades-in-arms who were left behind in the bloody Philippine battlegrounds; and

WHEREAS, war veterans of other nations who saw action in the Philippines during World War II, have also signified their desire to join them in the “Reunion for Peace”;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby constitute and create an Executive Committee to take charge of the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan and authorizing it to conduct a fund campaign for the period from April, 1, 1981 to March 31, 1982 to raise funds to be spent for the purpose. The Committee shall be composed of the following:

The Committee is hereby authorized to call upon any Ministry, bureau, office, agency or instrumentality of the government for such assistance as it may need in the discharge of its duties and functions.

All donations and contributions to the fund campaign shall be exempted from income, gift, amusement and all other taxes, and the same shall constitute allowable deductions in full from the income of the donor for purposes of computing the maximum amount deductible under Section 30, paragraph (h), of the National Internal Revenue Code, as amended.ᇈWᑭHIL
