PROCLAMATION NO. 2050

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 20 TO 26, 1981 AS “INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION WEEK

WHEREAS, the National Group of the Republic of the Philippines, representing our Batasang Pambansa, is one of the ninety (90) National Groups now affiliated with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

WHEREAS, the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the only worldwide organization of Parliaments, represented by the National Groups of member-countries, to promote closer relationship among Members of Parliament and unite them in common action in the establishment and development of representative institutions and in the advancement of international peace and cooperation;

WHEREAS, our National Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union achieved a signal honor for the Republic of the Philippines when the Honorable Jose A. Roño, Majority Floor Leader of the Batasang Pambansa, was elected as Member of the Executive Committee, administrative organ of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in its 67th Conference held at Berlin (German Democratic Republic) on September 16-24, 1980;

WHEREAS, the Republic of the Philippines is hosting the Spring Meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on April 20-25, 1981;

WHEREAS, the success of the spring meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Manila on April 20-25, 1981 will be another milestone in the history of our Republic;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to declare an Inter-Parliamentary Union Week to focus national attention on this significant event in our history;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers in me vested by law, do hereby declare the week from April 20 to 26, 1981 as Inter-Parliamentary Union Week under the auspices of the Batasang Pambansa.ᇈWᑭHIL

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
