PROCLAMATION NO. 1984

DECLARING JULY 2 OF EVERY YEAR AS “WORKING WOMEN’S DAY”

WHEREAS, women constitute an indispensable part of the labor force and recognition of the wide range of their activities and contribution to nation-building is imperative;

WHEREAS, the maximum participation of women as well as men is necessary to hasten the development process of the country;

WHEREAS, special efforts should be made to increase women’s integration in all fields and to bring about equality of opportunity and treatment for women workers; and

WHEREAS, concerted efforts to bring about a marked improvement in the position of women can be more effectively achieved through focusing attention on them at least once a year;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare July 2 of every year as “Working Women’s Day”. I urge all citizens and residents of this country, as well as all associations and organizations, to celebrate this day appropriately in recognition of the contribution of the working women to nation-building.

I authorize the Bureau of Women and Minors of the Ministry of Labor and Employment to take the initiative and assume active leadership in the celebration of “Working Women’s Day” every year.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
