PROCLAMATION NO. 1942

DECLARING THE 27TH SEPTEMBER OF 1980, AND OF EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER, AS WORLD TOURISM DAY MARKING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION, AND AUTHORIZING THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM TO PREPARE APPROPRIATE COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONIES AND EVENTS WITH THE SUPPORT OF ALL OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR.

WHEREAS, the Republic of the Philippines is dedicated to the ideals of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) to make of travel and tourism positive instruments to promote international peace and understanding, as well as the economic, social and cultural developments of nations;

WHEREAS, the WTO, meeting in General Assembly in September 1979 at Torremolinos, Spain, adopted a resolution designating the 27th September of every year, beginning in 1980, as World Tourism Day to commemorate the founding of WTO and as an opportunity to focus local, national and international attention on the contributions of travel and tourism to the world and its nations;

WHEREAS, the observance of World Tourism Day will be based on themes agreed upon by the WTO General Assembly;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the 27th day of September of every year, beginning in 1980, as World Tourism Day, and authorize the Ministry of Tourism to prepare appropriate ceremonies and events to commemorate World Tourism Day, subject to guidelines laid down by the WTO.

I call upon all agencies and instrumentalities of the government and the private sector to generously support and actively participate in commemorating World Tourism Day.ℒαwρhi৷
