CREATING A PHILIPPINE NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE GANDHI CENTENARY.
WHEREAS, of the few men in our time whose ideas have helped to change the world, Mahatma Gandhi may be counted one of them, for his ideas have sublimated mankind’s yearning for peace and freedom;
WHEREAS, he lived a life of the highest convictions and principles that has inspired men and nations, particularly in our past of the world, in which he preached the disavowal of violence and collaboration of all races and nations for human welfare; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Philippines, sharing the world’s need to translate Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas and aspirations in terms of everyday life, and believing in his teachings of peace, human fraternity, and brotherhood, accepts this opportunity to participate in the centenary celebrations for this great man;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby endorse the celebration in the Philippines of the Mahatma Gandhi Centenary in the year 1969, and create a Philippine National Committee for the occasion composes of the following who shall elect a chairman from among themselves:
