Proclamation No. 555

DECLARING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 12, 1940, A SPECIAL HOLIDAY IN THE CITY OF MANILA AND SURROUNDING MUNICIPALITIES.

Whereas, on the twelfth day of June, 1898, the independence of the Philippines was proclaimed and inaugurated in Kawit, Cavite, by the former Revolutionary Government;

Whereas, in order to fittingly commemorate this significant event, a parade to celebrate the anniversary of the proclamation by the former Revolutionary Government of the independence of the Philippines will be held in Manila on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 12, 1940, in which laborers and employees are to participate;

Now, therefore, I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, pursuant to the provisions of section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 1940, a special public holiday in Manila and the surrounding municipalities in order to give the laborers and employees therein opportunity to join the parade.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philppines to be affixed.

Done at the City of Manila, this twelfth day of June, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the fifth.
