Proclamation No. 408

DECLARING MONDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 5, 1939, A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN MANILA AND SURROUNDING MUNICIPALITIES

Whereas the Government has watched with sympathetic interest the efforts of the various labor elements of the country to unite and thereby more effectively prosecute their common cause;

Whereas these efforts have finally resulted in the signing of a Labor Concordat by which unity is secured through the establishment of a National Labor Commission composed of representatives of the major organizations; and

Whereas in order to fittingly commemorate this significant event, a Labor Unity Parade will be held in the City of Manila, on the afternoon of June fifth, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, in which laborers and employees are to participate;

Now, therefore, I. Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, upon recommendation of the Secretary of Labor and pursuant to the provisions of section thirty of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Monday afternoon, June fifth, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, a special public holiday in Manila and the surrounding municipalities in order to give the laborers and employees therein oppor­tunity to join the parade.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done at the City of Manila, this thirtieth day of May, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the fourth.
