MALACAÑANG PALACE

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES
Proclamation No. 341
REDUCING DURING A CERTAIN PERIOD THE IMPORT DUTY ON HUSKED RICE TO THREE CENTAVOS PER KILO
Having found after due investigation that there is now a scarcity of the local supply of rice, requiring the importation of this cereal, and considering that with a reasonable reduction in the duty now being collected upon all importations of this staple product, the actual local price thereof would be reduced to a level which will not be injurious to the interests of the Filipino farmers as the native supply is now practically exhausted; and inasmuch as such a reduction would benefit the public, particularly the consumers, I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers conferred upon me by the Constitution and by section three of Act Numbered Thirty-nine hundred and eighteen, entitled "An Act amending paragraphs two hundred and fifteen and two hundred and seventeen of the Act of Congress of August fifth, nineteen hundred and nine", do hereby reduce the duty on imported rice to one dollar and fifty cents (three pesos) for every one hundred kilos, gross weight, of husked rice, effective on the date of this proclamation and up to November fifteenth, nineteen hundred and thirty-eight
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to be affixed.
Done at the City of Manila, this 9th day of November, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and thirty-eight, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the third.
