Proclamation No. 3

DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 23 TO 29 AS FIRST NATIONAL GIRLS’ WEEK

I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, do hereby designate the period from November 23 to 29 as First National Girls’ Week.

The National Federation of Women’s Clubs in sponsoring the First National Girls’ Week aims to increase interest in girls as among the nation’s greatest assets, to give the girls a sense of their possibilities and responsibilities as future citizens, and to secure recognition on the part of the government and the public of their responsibility toward girls.

The importance of the aims of this movement is obvious. If the role that girls play in a community need to be better emphasized, it is at this epoch when the Philippines has stepped into the threshold of a new era. Our girls must realize more than ever the obligations and responsibilities incumbent upon them if they must be worthwhile citizens.

I, therefore, ask all our citizens, and business interests, all insular, provincial and municipal officials, all teachers in public and private schools, and other public-spirited individuals and institutions to give their support and cooperation in order that the aims of the first National Girls’ Week may be carried out successfully.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done at the City of Manila, this twenty-first day of November, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and thirty-five, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the first.

[SEAL]

(Sgd.) MANUEL L. QUEZON
President of the Philippines
