[ Memorandum Order No. 89, January 26, 2000 ]

AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE/NATIONAL FOOD AUTHORITY TO IMPORT 50,000 METRIC TONS OF WHITE CORN DUTY-FREE

The Department of Agriculture (DA) / National Food Authority (NFA) is hereby granted the authority to import 50,000 metric tons of white corn to ensure the food security requirements of white corngrits consumers.

To protect the welfare of corn farmers and likewise stabilize consumer prices, the NFA shall sell the imported corn to accredited end-users/millers only at a price not lower than P6.50 per kilo but not to exceed P7.00 per kilo.1aшphi1 Any net proceeds less expenses accruing to this importation will be held in trust by the NFA and be used to promote agricultural development in the country. The use of such funds shall be subject to the joint approval of the Secretary of Agriculture and the NFA Administrator.

The Department of Finance and other concerned agencies are hereby directed to grant the NFA duty/tariff free privileges for the importation of the 50,000 metric tons white corn and the needed loan guarantee cover, provided such import arrive in the Philippines anytime between February and April 2000.

This Memorandum Order issued on 26th January 2000 shall take effect immediately.
