SUBJECT |
VARIOUS ISSUES ON LABOR |
DATE |
13 July 1992 |
In a meeting with the Senators held last 11 July 1992, the following issues concerning the labor sector were raised:
1 Anomalies in the collection of application fees from Taiwan-bound workers;
2 The need to draw up a set of recommendations in the drafting of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Philippines and other countries that would ensure the protection and welfare of overseas contract workers;
3 The need to ensure that crime of illegal recruitment is included among the offenses for priority attention of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission;
4 Development of a study that will propose stricter implementation of the provisions of the Labor Code, particularly that which will require the direct election of labor leaders by union members, as a concrete component of the people empowerment program.
5 The Congressional initiative to raise the National Minimum Wage.1aшphi1
In this regard, please make sure that the necessary actions are taken to address the issues accordingly.
