EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 552 August 14, 1979

ELEVATING THE OFFICE OF THE SOLICITOR GENERAL INTO A MINISTRY

WHEREAS, the Office of the Solicitor General as law office of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, performs a vital role in government, particularly, in the handling of constitutional and other important litigations before the Supreme Court and other courts or tribunals;

WHEREAS, the magnitude and importance of the work of the Office of the Solicitor General requires that it be given the status of a ministry in line with the ongoing reorganization of the government;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND, E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution do hereby order:

Sec. 1. The Office of the Solicitor General is hereby converted and elevated into a Ministry.

Sec. 2. The Ministry shall have the same powers and perform the same function of the Office of the Solicitor General as defined in PD No. 478 and PD No. 1347.

Sec. 3. The Authority and responsibility for the exercise of the powers and the discharge of the functions of the Ministry shall be vested in the Solicitor General. He shall be assisted by the present Assistant Solicitors General, the present Solicitors and Trial Attorneys and such other staffs and operating units as are now or may hereafter be provided by law.

Sec. 4. All laws, decrees, charters, executive orders, administrative orders, rules and regulations or parts thereof that are in conflict with this Executive Order are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.

Sec. 5. This Executive Order shall take effect immediately.
